Shawn Dollar se rompe el cuello surfeando

Shawn Dollar, surfista de olas grandes, ganador de los Billabong XXL en 2013, sufrió este lunes un terrible accidente mientras surfeaba en un reefbreak en algún lugar del "Big Sur" californiano, rompiéndose el cuello por cuatro lugares.

Todavía no se sabe exactamente las circunstancias del accidente, pero Dollar estaba en el agua intentando surfear olas de 25 pies, unos ocho metros, según la web Titans of Maricks. En algún momento de la sesión el surfista de Santa Cruz se rompió el cuello además de sufrir un traumatismo craneoencefálico, pero consiguió llegar hasta la orilla, donde fue atendido en un primer momento por sus compañeros para luego ser trasladado al Dominican Hospital de Santa Cruz donde quedó ingresado.

La buena noticia es que no sufre parálisis de sus extremidades y que está estable dentro de la gravedad.

Desde su cuenta de Instagram, Dollar ha querido dar las gracias a toda la gente que le ha apoyado:

"Según van saliendo las noticias quiero deciros que estoy en estable y me voy a poner bien. Espero una recuperación total. Soy extremadamente afortunado. Perdón por dar la noticia de esta manera a mi familia y amigos pero estoy postrado en la cama del hospital y necesito descansar así que responder a todos me es imposible. Cada día es un regalo. Di a la gente que te rodea cuanto los quieres porque todo lo demás no importa. Te quiero Jenn. Gracias a toda mi familia y a todos mis amigos por el apoyo demostrado. Me siento muy querido."

Santa Cruz, CA – Renowned professional big wave surfer, Titans of Mavericks competitor and multiple Guinness World Record holder Shawn Dollar of Santa Cruz, CA was injured yesterday surfing large waves off of California’s Central Coast. A strong south swell reportedly produced waves upwards of 25+ feet with unfavorable mixed conditions putting Dollar in a critical scenario that caused him to act accordingly to protect himself. Shawn broke his neck in four places, incurred head trauma and a concussion. He made it to safety and then was quickly cared for by his fellow surfers in whom transported him expeditiously to the ER for immediate care and evaluation. He is in stable condition at this time. The entire surfing community extends support and love to Shawn and his family.
