Punta Galea Challenge sigue en el BWT

El World Surf League (WSL) ha anunciado hoy que los acantilados de Getxo serán escenario entre el 15 de octubre de 2015 u el 28 de febrero de 2016 de la única prueba europea dentro del prestigioso circuito mundial de olas grandes, Big Wave Tour (BWT), el Punta Galea Challenge. La prueba es una de las cuatro que se van a celebrar en el hemisferio norte junto a las de Oregón (Estados Unidos), Peahi (Hawai) y Todos Santos.

24 surfistas, entre los cuales se encuentran los mejores del circuito mundial así como surfistas locales, competirán en cuatro mangas de seis riders, tras las cuales pasarán los tres mejores de cada manga a las semifinales. Los tres mejores de cada semifinal disputarán la final. En total se repartirán 50.000 dólares de premios.

Los organizadores de Punta Galea Challenge han anunciado su intención de "incorporar novedades" a un evento que en los últimos años ha reunido a más de 10.000 personas en el espectacular acantilado de 60 metros de altura situado en la margen derecha de la desembocadura del Nervión.

El periodo de espera será del 15 de octubre de 2015 al 28 de febrero de 2016.
