Taj Burrow gana el Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast 2012

Taj Burrow ganó el pasado fin de semana el Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast ante el brasileño Adriano de Souza, y es el primer líder de la nueva temporada del WCT.

No puedo decir que no me sorprendiera ver a Taj y a Adriano disputando la final (que se lo digan a mi equipo del Fantasy Surfer). Veía a hombres como Owen Wright, Joel Parkinson, Matt Wilkinson, o el mismísimo Kelly Slater, más en forma que a estos dos surfistas.

Pero lo cierto es que se lo ganaron a pulso en las olas de Snapper Rock. Taj venció en el último suspiro a Adrian Buchan, cuando el tiempo ya se había agotado, para después dominar su manga de semifinales contra Jordy Smith.

A Adriano de Souza le pasó lo mismo en cuartos de final contra Owen Wright. Se quedaba sin tiempo, iba por detrás en el marcador, y a falta de dos minutos se sacó de la chistera una ola magistral que le dio el pase a semifinales.

Para Taj era la tercera final consecutiva en Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast. Una la había ganado contra Jordy Smith y la del 2011 la perdió contra Kelly Slater, para Adriano de Souza, la segunda en toda su carrera.

La final estuvo muy pareja durante todo el tiempo, cualquiera pudo ganar, pero lo hizo el australiano. Hizo méritos para ello, pero siempre quedará la pregunta de si se le puntuó por debajo a Adriano en esa última ola de la manga en la que le dieron un 7.60 por un aéreo, cuando necesitaba un 7.87. Para mi Burrow fue el justo ganador.
